Task 4 - Target Audience

Our film is a thriller. Because of this, we are aiming for our target audience to be 15+ years. This is an age where everyone is at least a teenager, which is useful as our film seems to be quite scary, but not scary enough to be an 18+ years.

Thriller films are most watched by teenagers, as they like the thrill of the films. They would enjoy the suspense and tension, and probably want to find out what was making the noises in our film. This would encourage them more to watch it. They may also like the fact that the film could make you jump, and this could be fun to watch with their friends.

Most people aged around our target audience (15-24 years old) have work/school in the week, however in their free time (i.e. on weekends), they may go to the cinema with friends to see a film. If they aren't seeing a film, they may be working at home, gaming (e.g. PS4), watching TV etc. However, this would still leave time to go see a film like ours.

Our secondary audience is 25-34 years old. This is the age when you are no longer being educated, but working full time. This means they may have less time to see a film, which is why it's not our primary target audience. However, at this age, you may still have time on a Saturday night to go and see a film. People in this age group may like our film as once again, they may enjoy the thrill and suspense of wondering what is making these noises.

Our film is not aimed at a gender in particular, although I do believe that males would prefer our film as men have more tolerance to scary films, whereas women are frightened more easily and so may not enjoy it as much as men. Our plot may attract both genders as this is something that could happen to any person and any gender, so they may be more encouraged to see it knowing it is a realistic plot.

Scream (IMDB below) is aimed at a target audience of 18. This is similar to ours but a bit higher which may be due to the fact that Scream is part comedy and may have strong sexual references which may bring the age of the target audience up. Our film is similar as they are both tense and involve a killer after someone tries to find the monster. It's a similar target audience as both films would make you jump and both are scary thrillers.
